Goblin Scratchings

Matt here, from Elliah’s Elite Goblin Guard (EGG) and an honorary member of the Guardian League… or GL as we lovingly call it. If you haven’t read Book 3 yet, then you haven’t heard about me, but worry not, for all will become clear in time.

Assuming we have it. Time, I mean.

If you haven’t read about me yet, all you need to know for now is that I’m good with intel. So, Reader, please believe me when I write that I don’t send this to you without some idea that you are the right person to see it.

It has been pointed out to me that I did a better job illustrating Book 2 than Book 1, that my little sketches helped readers. So I’ve made an attempt at recreating one of the situations I heard described second-hand from Staci. Of course, she wasn’t there either, but she’s seen the Infected, and she assures me I’ve got it about right.

My ask of you? Tell me some other scenes from Book 1 that need illustration. I thought Red’s first meeting with Galad and Grundle might be intriguing. Or maybe a picture of the engineering marvel of The Palace? Forewarned is forearmed, as the Warlord says, and if more people become educated by adding pictures, then I’ll add ‘em!

I know that only a handful of humans have seen my early scratchings for Book 3, so this scene won’t make sense (yet!), but here’s some more visuals on the Infected.

I actually liked my original drawing better, but Elliah assures me it was just a warehouse in the background, and in a field rather than a rocky terrace. But tell me this isn’t better…

So much more haunting, right? I swear, elves can be as bad as humans about being sticklers for reality.

Please do get back to me with thoughts on other pics for Book 1. I think it needs about three more or it'll just be weird.

Oh, one more thing--I hacked into a web site and caught a piece of a short story that another human, SJMorris, submitted for publication in an anthology. Apparently, it was about some side characters in Book 4, but involving goblins. He said, if it didn’t get accepted, he’d send it on as private content for those subscribed to his email list. I’m secretly hoping his story doesn’t get accepted… because then I’ll grab it and pass it on to you!

Stay safe. Social distancing keeps the Infected from finding Earth!

P.S. We need more GL Supporters. Send prospective candidates this link to enlist, and they'll get an ecopy of Book 1: https://witty-musician-71.ck.page/039d149c56. Or direct them to http://sjmorriswrites.com and they can sign up from there, and find links to purchase their own copies of Books 1 & 2 to get caught up before Book 3 comes out.

Middle daughter napping with dog in my office

A week-and-a-half after retirement, my buddy sent a pic from the gym room at work, asking where I was. My first thought was, "Why are they in the office on a Saturday?" It was Thursday. That shows where my head is. 🙃 I haven't hit a home run in my job search, nor has anything knocked my socks off. I had an opportunity that appealed to me more than others, working at a startup called Tenstorrent. Though I didn't get the job, I realized through the process that I really like the idea of a...

I would like to lock down my blurb so that I can send it to the cover editor. I took input from April, then made more edits. I’m open to suggestions. Also pretty happy with it. The Mother of Trees withers while the trolls prepare to conquer a crumbling world. The elves’ only hope rests on a desperate plan forged by a fanatical Warder with questionable motives. Elliah, a magicless elf cursed by prophecy, holds the key to either salvation or destruction. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the...
