Happy Neo Year

Welcome to 2022! I don’t have a ton of writing updates, as I spent most of the last week doing family-related mayhem (including a trip to Fiesta Texas, watching all the old Spider-Man movies with my oldest in prep for the new movie… and throwing in The Matrix b/c I just thought she needed her mind blown) and house projects. Unfortunately, some of the crown molding showed-up damaged, so I had to return it. I’m waiting on more to arrive, leaving the project half-done. And tomorrow I jump back into work (though this email won’t go out until Tuesday). I can’t think of a time I’ve dreaded returning to work so much—there’s just too much packed into the next six months.

I’ve never been much on New Year’s resolutions, but that’s not a statement against resolutions. It is rather a feeling that I can start something new any day. Why wait? That said, one of the sillier things I have missed since COVID began is a chin-up bar. There was one along the route I would run at lunchtime from work. I’d really like to get a chin-up bar again, and not just a doorframe bar, but a full-on bar I can swing on. 😜 So that'll be my silly resolution for 2022--find, or built, a chin-up bar. Yeah, yeah, resolutions should be reading or writing related... but my plans in those regards are already mapped out. You have any good ones?

Writing Updates

Slow week for me writing-wise. I did a little reading (which I find I must carve out time to do these days). I spent some time with a FB ad trainer trying to improve my ad game—I’ve got a “Brand Awareness” ad running now, though I don’t really, truly, understand the point. Yet.

Recognizing that I need help keeping momentum going while I work on Book 4, I hired someone to help create a Street Team and teach me how to use one—Christine Hutton. Again, I don’t know how this will work out—taking chances and learning.

Speaking of Book 4, I started editing it. No title yet… FreeWorld something something. The Price of Freedom? Freedom’s Price? FreeWorld’s Price. 🤷‍♂️ I’ve got some massive structural edits planned for the middle, so it’ll take some time.

o To-Do list for writing last week:

  • Email updates
  • Poke on Amazon hardback creation
  • Fix the logo on website & books

o To-Do list for writing this week:

  • Email updates
  • Continue editing Book 4 (this will be on my to-do for many weeks).
  • Poke on Amazon hardback creation
  • Fix the logo on website & books (I can see I'm draggin' my feet on this one. There's a lot of work involved in updating books and getting the various formats uploaded to all of the sites.)

Middle daughter napping with dog in my office

A week-and-a-half after retirement, my buddy sent a pic from the gym room at work, asking where I was. My first thought was, "Why are they in the office on a Saturday?" It was Thursday. That shows where my head is. 🙃 I haven't hit a home run in my job search, nor has anything knocked my socks off. I had an opportunity that appealed to me more than others, working at a startup called Tenstorrent. Though I didn't get the job, I realized through the process that I really like the idea of a...

I would like to lock down my blurb so that I can send it to the cover editor. I took input from April, then made more edits. I’m open to suggestions. Also pretty happy with it. The Mother of Trees withers while the trolls prepare to conquer a crumbling world. The elves’ only hope rests on a desperate plan forged by a fanatical Warder with questionable motives. Elliah, a magicless elf cursed by prophecy, holds the key to either salvation or destruction. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the...
