Friends invited my wife and me to a Journey concert in Austin--really fun night.

Then on the weekend, the first of this year's track meets for my oldest -- since it was a long drive and she had to be there hours before her event, I got there and snuck in a run myself. Then my wife and I got a second night out in one week -- hanging out with friends and laughing the night away. (It's probably a good thing there are no pics of that adventure.)

I'm very happy with the progress made over the last week on adding in a second PoV for Mother of Trees. Edith's advice was dead on. I think the story's skeleton might be done. Places need more meat on the bone, and I have to wrap my mind around this being a different and shorter book than I intended, but I think she was right about where to cut it, and put the next part in a next book. I'm not entirely convinced yet. In my first series, I wrote out the whole thing, all four books, before releasing Book 1. With a little more experience and confidence, I don't feel I need to go to quite that extreme, but I need to do more than I've done so far to convince myself this split will work.

I'm following more of Edith's lead by creating "excerpt readings" for IG/FB. I'm still learning - because I used a filter, and possibly also because I added music, I cannot use the readings in ads. I'll do another and try to get it right. The dragon remains on the wall for now, but I think it will be leaving soon.

o To-Do list for writing last week:

  • Email updates
  • Work on the alternate PoV for Mother of Trees
  • Try to finalize contract with artist. Still WIP, but we're talking again.

o To-Do list for writing this week:

  • Email updates
  • Re-read MoT and make notes for corrections.
  • Keep poking ahead on the next book(s) to convince myself it will all come together.
  • Try to finalize contract with artist.

Middle daughter napping with dog in my office

A week-and-a-half after retirement, my buddy sent a pic from the gym room at work, asking where I was. My first thought was, "Why are they in the office on a Saturday?" It was Thursday. That shows where my head is. 🙃 I haven't hit a home run in my job search, nor has anything knocked my socks off. I had an opportunity that appealed to me more than others, working at a startup called Tenstorrent. Though I didn't get the job, I realized through the process that I really like the idea of a...

I would like to lock down my blurb so that I can send it to the cover editor. I took input from April, then made more edits. I’m open to suggestions. Also pretty happy with it. The Mother of Trees withers while the trolls prepare to conquer a crumbling world. The elves’ only hope rests on a desperate plan forged by a fanatical Warder with questionable motives. Elliah, a magicless elf cursed by prophecy, holds the key to either salvation or destruction. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the...
