For those of you that aren't close to the microchip industry -- it is going through upheaval right now, and my work is no exception. So instead of the calm downtime I expected after taping in our last chip, I've had to work through some pretty dynamic changes. It can be... unsettling.

I think I hit a new driving record last weekend - about 5 hours on the road Saturday entirely for running kids around town. Impressive, right? Used about 3/4 of a tank of gas. I could have driven to South Padre Island in that time and enjoyed a frigid beach adventure. Frankly, this is a totally ridiculous time in life to entertain a writing hobby (yes, Hunny, I admit it), but I've never been entirely sensible... how dull that would be.

BUT, part of that driving brought me to basketball--my oldest daughter's team won their basketball tournament in sudden death. She couldn't walk the next morning... took a hit to her leg that is causing some knee pain. But ice, anti-inflammatories, and a holiday break will hopefully do the trick.

Cranking away on Mother of Trees--Elliah is finally nearing the next crux of her story. It's almost like she doesn't want to get there! (Any other authors out there who feel like their characters sometimes push back?) Someone needs to tell her that this isn't even the bad part. Sheesh.

I felt sure the dragon was our fault… well, specifically, the Warder’s fault. I willed him to keep his mouth shut, as I didn’t relish the thought of how many years I would have to work on the Knoll in order to pay off the repairs. But that would be ludicrous too, as having the hammer on board would incur more attacks and more damage.
But, as the world had taught me many times over, my will had no bearing on reality.
“The dragon hunted me,” Beldroth said, drawing all eyes. “I will find some way to pay for the damages.”
Damned noble fool.

Middle daughter napping with dog in my office

A week-and-a-half after retirement, my buddy sent a pic from the gym room at work, asking where I was. My first thought was, "Why are they in the office on a Saturday?" It was Thursday. That shows where my head is. 🙃 I haven't hit a home run in my job search, nor has anything knocked my socks off. I had an opportunity that appealed to me more than others, working at a startup called Tenstorrent. Though I didn't get the job, I realized through the process that I really like the idea of a...

I would like to lock down my blurb so that I can send it to the cover editor. I took input from April, then made more edits. I’m open to suggestions. Also pretty happy with it. The Mother of Trees withers while the trolls prepare to conquer a crumbling world. The elves’ only hope rests on a desperate plan forged by a fanatical Warder with questionable motives. Elliah, a magicless elf cursed by prophecy, holds the key to either salvation or destruction. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the...
