Newsletter - April 11, 2023

I hope everyone had a great Easter! Ever since we married, my wife and I have spent most of our Easters at my father-in-law’s ranch. This was the coldest one we’ve had in a while, and one of the smallest gatherings as well, but I liked that better—spending time with mostly immediate family. And the horses of course. The bbq’ing, as always, tasted fantastic.

We had a lot of impromptu games with the kids (and younger adults). Take a look at the setup for grilling!

Last week, I mentioned some news I’d like help with. I’m running a kindle freebie on Book 1 from April 14-16, and I’d love for others to spread the word. My birthday is April 13th, but, ironically, there’s one day each quarter when you can’t run a kindle freebie, and danged if it isn’t my birthday.

I’ll run a post like the below on FB/IG on my birthday. I have to post it on the 13th in order to boost the post for the 14th-16th, because sometimes it takes up to a day for a boost to "take". Helping me get the word out once you see the ad would be greatly appreciated.

And maybe I’ll give Bookbub one more try with this one:

I have, so far, always messed up the release of ads for freebies. Since I cannot schedule this freebie until the 13th (because that starts the new quarter), there’s a chance this one will go wrong as well. Maybe I’ll send an extra note, just this once, on the 13th, to let you know the freebie got set up.

My podcast debut on fictions fans comes out on the 12th. I’ll post a link for it next week (or instructions or something… I doubt I can link to a podcast). Oh, I just looked - I don't see any way to link to my podcast directly except through a chosen platform, like Apple podcasts, for instance. They have some slick-looking wix interface (I think wix) on their web site, but I doubt mine will support that.

o To-Do list for writing last week:

  • Email updates
  • Keep editing Mother of Trees - yup, some small but continued progress
  • Write ahead - Finish the scene prior to Troll's Teeth, then jump back to the Troll's Teeth story - I've thought that segment of the story through some, and it won't be quick to write. I'll be working on it for a few weeks. Nope... I broke through the problem with the intro, but the adventure is not flowing from the pen (so to speak). Only the seed of the story is there at this point.

Middle daughter napping with dog in my office

A week-and-a-half after retirement, my buddy sent a pic from the gym room at work, asking where I was. My first thought was, "Why are they in the office on a Saturday?" It was Thursday. That shows where my head is. 🙃 I haven't hit a home run in my job search, nor has anything knocked my socks off. I had an opportunity that appealed to me more than others, working at a startup called Tenstorrent. Though I didn't get the job, I realized through the process that I really like the idea of a...

I would like to lock down my blurb so that I can send it to the cover editor. I took input from April, then made more edits. I’m open to suggestions. Also pretty happy with it. The Mother of Trees withers while the trolls prepare to conquer a crumbling world. The elves’ only hope rests on a desperate plan forged by a fanatical Warder with questionable motives. Elliah, a magicless elf cursed by prophecy, holds the key to either salvation or destruction. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the...
