I now have three teenage daughters! Yay...

Karaoke party for the 13 year old - clearly fantastic singers destined for the Hall of Fame. We're about to take Thanksgiving break (and, yes, the Christmas tree is up). I still have to work, but life should be a little slower this week.

I'm sending Mother of Trees off to the editor... who reads this newsletter, so I probably shouldn't talk about her like a monster. I must remind myself that Marla is pruning. The plant will be healthier. Just watch where you stick those shears, Marla!

I'm still hoping to get more folks signed up for the ARC reading. In case you don't understand what that is: I send you an Advanced Read Copy (ARC), which will still have some mistakes because Marla hasn't cut them out yet. You read it, and you give it a rating and review on Amazon/Goodreads/Bookbub as soon as you are able. When you can do that is a little confusing these days. Once the book is officially released, you can post your review for sure, but there are some circumstances where you can post a review, at least on Amazon, ahead of time, from the ARC read. Those circumstances are mysterious, arcane, and probably require a blood sacrifice of some kind. Let's find out together? (Marla still has her shears.)

Here's the link to sign up if you are interested or have friends/family who might be interested: https://pages.sjmorriswrites.com/mother_of_trees_arc

There's still edit, cover work, and map work to be finalized. I set a release date of Feb 1st, but that's really to try and build up a little more momentum before the release than I've done in the past. I'm going to do a book signing at our local B&N (on Brodie Lane if you're in Austin) on Dec 9th. I'm hoping to collect a few more ARC readers there. But I've learned how important the book launch is, particularly for a series starter, and I'm trying to up my game. So once more: I'd love a lot more ARC readers.

Middle daughter napping with dog in my office

A week-and-a-half after retirement, my buddy sent a pic from the gym room at work, asking where I was. My first thought was, "Why are they in the office on a Saturday?" It was Thursday. That shows where my head is. 🙃 I haven't hit a home run in my job search, nor has anything knocked my socks off. I had an opportunity that appealed to me more than others, working at a startup called Tenstorrent. Though I didn't get the job, I realized through the process that I really like the idea of a...

I would like to lock down my blurb so that I can send it to the cover editor. I took input from April, then made more edits. I’m open to suggestions. Also pretty happy with it. The Mother of Trees withers while the trolls prepare to conquer a crumbling world. The elves’ only hope rests on a desperate plan forged by a fanatical Warder with questionable motives. Elliah, a magicless elf cursed by prophecy, holds the key to either salvation or destruction. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the...
